Our principle achievements in research? Here are a few examples:
Development of new testing methods: these methods are accredited as being applied by our laboratory for cements, mortars, concretes, etc. We therefore develop alternative methods to determine the content in the hexavalent chromium (Chrome VI) of cements or to identify the phosphorus pentoxide (P2O5) soluble and the reactive silica in fly ash.
Studies on the durability of concrete: research into the resistance and the durability of concretes in the freezing-thawing cycles (with the goal of effectively classifying resistance to freezing-thawing in concretes, performed with BENOR cements),the problems of corrosion of poor concrete, caused by chloride irons or by carbonation, the degradations following the development of secondary ettringite or the Alkali-Silica reaction (ASR), etc.
Research linked to the environment and health: projects devoted to leaching (the study of the potential diffusion of heavy metals and organic products); admixtures in water and in contact with concrete; projects on respirable crystalline silica intended to check the quantity of crystalline silica in the air (development of measurement techniques with a view to reducing the emission of harmful dusts).
Projects linked to instrumentation: construction of high performance equipment, extension of competences in certain areas, accuracy of measurements or of instruments such as electronic or optical microscopes, or of the quantitative techniques founded on the diffraction of X-rays (DRX).
Research into materials: determination of the resistance to puncture by columns of reinforcedconcreteslabs fitted with metallic fibres; studies of the reactivity of furnace slags in CEM III-type cements; and numerous other projects,
Analysis of the workability of concrete: study of the potential effect of certain additives on the workability of concretes, including the measurement of the setting times of aluminous cements and studies into the problem of delamination of the superficial coat of concrete industrial floors.
